Economic Development Committee

Co-Chairs: Matt Zeiger and Jim Willshier

The Economic Development Committee's mission is to retain and attract business in downtown Harrisburg. Our top goals for 2006 include:

1. Continued expansion of the Passport Rewards discount program.
2. Improve member use and awareness of Passport Rewards.
3. Investigate the possibility of assisting in the rebuilding effort of theWalnut Street Bridge.
4. Research solutions to the “Snow Removal in Downtown” issue.
5. Investigate the creation of a “HYPMortgage Plan”with a city mortgage institution.
6. Creation of a “ShopHarrisburg” website or link, independently or possibly in cooperation with the Downtown Improvement District site.
7. Possible creation of a HYP Credit Card in cooperation with a city bank. This program would also generate income for HYP.
8. Increase lobbying efforts upon those individuals and organizations responsible for local, county and/or state economic development efforts with the objective of increasing efforts to bring 10 national retail businesses to downtown Harrisburg.
9. Consider the development and benefits, of a HYP “enhanced” membership, at a higher membership fee but with additional benefits and features.
