The 17th Annual Black History Exhibition

17TH ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY EXHIBITION TO OPEN AT RESERVOIR MANSION

The Art Association of Harrisburg, in conjunction with The City of Harrisburg, will present the 17TH ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY EXHIBITION from February 3 through March 31 at Reservoir Mansion, 100 Concert Drive. Citizens Bank is the show's corporate sponsor.

A reception will be held for the exhibition on Saturday, February 7, from 2 to 4 PM at the Mansion., with Jimmy Wood on keyboard providing jazz for the afternoon.

Featured artists for the 2009 Black History Exhibition will be photographer Danny Houston and Jo Ann Neal, who creates Afro-Centric collages and paintings. A native of Harrisburg, Jo Ann has become a prolific artist despite debilitating arthritis. Her joyful, colourful paintings and mixed media works depict African people and masks, as well as geometric and whimsical designs. In addition to her paintings on canvas and works on paper, Jo Ann applies her designs to greeting cards and treasure boxes. She has exhibited her work in numeroua AAH exhibitions, and One Night Stand Exhibitions.

Danny Houston is truly a "citizen of the world," having travelled extensively and having taken fascinating photographs wherever he goes. on his exotic travels since he was 18. His photos are filled with vibrant colours and intriguing subject matter, giving his viewers the opportunity to experience the cultures of the indigenous peoples he visits. Danny has travelled throughout southeast Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

In addition, artwork by students of the Harrisburg School District will be exhibited in the second-floor gallery of the Mansion, including photos by the students who participated in the camp conducted by Harrisburg Camera Club.
