HYP Employer Assisted Housing Program a Major Success

Harrisburg, PA, June 3, 2010 - Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) announces the success of the HYP Employer Assisted Housing Program.

$14,000 in grants were awarded toward the purchase of a primary residence in the City of Harrisburg. All grants were made to individual home-buyers on a first-come, first-serve basis in the amount of $1,000. The program was announced on February 24, 2010 and all funds were exhausted by April 2, 2010.

"HYP is delighted to announce that the Employer Assisted Housing Program is a success," said Jason Marks, President. "The fact that all funds were exhausted in a matter of 5 weeks is evidence of the demand for urban living in the City of Harrisburg. In actuality, the program was oversubscribed and we had to turn people away once all the funds were awarded."

The program was funded in large part by donations from civic-minded area employers, including: Ray Davis, Vartan Group, Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District, Riverview Manor Associates, Past HYP President Wendell Hoover, Past HYP President Alex Hartzler, Harristown Development, and Past HYP President Jessica Meyers/JEM Group.

This program was also made possible thanks to the leadership of the Harrisburg 2020 Committee, the Harrisburg Regional Chamber/CREDC, and Urban Land Institute.

Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) is a non-profit organization comprised of young, active, civic-minded professionals who have a clear vision of Harrisburg's future as a great place to live, work, play, and shop.
