Tree Planting: Part 2
On Saturday, May 1, 1999, HYP members planted trees, shrubs and bulbs in the median of Forster Street between Green and Third Streets. This project is the second in a series of tree-planting projects planned by HYP as part of the City of Harrisburg's 2000 Trees by 2000 program. The first project completed by HYP was the planting of thirteen Red Karpick maple trees and a variety of shrubs in the median of Forster Street between Green and Second Streets in October 1998. The City's Parks and Recreation Department, the Urban Forestry Division of the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), and District 8 of PennDOT have been instrumental in the Forster Street project, contributing expertise, labor, and the use of their equipment.

On Friday, April 30 (Arbor Day), HYP members attended a press conference given at Front and Division Streets by Mayor Reed and the City of Harrisburg's Parks and Recreation Department. The ceremony kicked off the City's 2000 Trees by 2000 program. Several HYP members stayed for the afternoon to help plant the first 50 trees along the Susquehanna River.
